Hello, my name is Alejandra G. Castellanos. I am currently an assistant professor at The University of Texas at El Paso’s Department of Mechanical Engineering. I obtained my master’s degree from UTEP in May 2016 and my doctoral degree from The University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) in May 2019.
My current emphasis is on composite materials. I focus on identifying failure mechanisms, damage mitigation techniques, innovative/nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques for material inspection, and their applications in aerospace.
I am a 2021 awardee of the Air Force Research Lab Summer Faculty Fellowship Program (AFRL/RQ-AFRL-Aerospace Systems) where I worked with my students on “Analysis of Low-Velocity Impact on Laminated Composites.”
I am a 2017 recipient of the Amelia Earhart Fellowship, awarded annually by Zonta International to up to 35 women “of any nationality pursuing a Ph.D./doctoral degree who demonstrate a superior academic record conducting research applied to aerospace engineering or space sciences.”
Please feel free to visit this site for information about myself, my team, and the projects that I am currently involved with.
